Peloton Launches AI-Dubbed Classes in Spanish & German (Translating Instructor Audio with AI-Generated Voices)

Peloton has begun rolling out AI-dubbed versions of classes, using artificial intelligence to translate instructor voices into other languages. The feature is launching first in Spanish, with German coming soon.

Rather than using AI to generate subtitles, which Peloton introduced about a year ago, this takes things a step further and is replacing the instructor’s English audio voice with an AI-generated voiceover in the target language. The playlist remains the same as the original class; only the voice is swapped (or “dubbed”).

Peloton began offering classes dubbed into German back in 2023, then started dubbing classes into Spanish in 2024. However, those dubbed classes were created with real humans providing the voices and the translation. These new AI-dubbed classes use artificial intelligence to both create the translation, as well to to generate the voice.

Peloton describes the technology as follows:

“AI-dubbed classes use advanced voice-synthesis technology to translate an Instructor’s original English guidance into other languages, such as German or Spanish. Unlike with subtitles, you will hear a high-quality, AI-generated voiceover that mirrors the instructor’s tone and pace, allowing you to focus entirely on your workout without looking at the screen for translations.”

The company adds that “the AI is calibrated to capture the energy and motivational cues of your favorite instructors so you don’t miss out on the Peloton experience.”

A disclaimer appears at the start of any class that uses AI dubbing, stating: “The Spanish version is produced with AI-generated voice.” (or the equivalent in the dubbed language).

Peloton explained the reasoning behind the notice:

“We want to be sure that Members are aware when AI technology is being used. This notification lets you know that the audio is generated by an AI engine rather than a human voice or an actor. While the AI dubbing technology we use is highly accurate, we include the disclaimer to account for potential nuances in pronunciation.”

Peloton also acknowledged that the technology isn’t perfect yet, saying: “We are aware that AI dubs may not be perfect all the time, and we are continuously monitoring and improving the quality, to ensure the best Member experience.”

One of the first uses of the AI dubbing is for Andy Speer’s 5-Day Advanced Split program, which originally launched in English last fall and is now available in Spanish with AI-dubbed audio.

You will hear the same playlist as you would in the original English version. However, rather than hearing Andy’s voice speaking in English, you will hear a AI-generated voice giving you the directions in Spanish instead.

This launch follows CEO Peter Stern’s comments a few months ago about expanding Peloton’s AI capabilities from subtitles to full dubbing. At the time, Stern highlighted the international potential, saying: “We can deliver our workouts from our amazing instructors in many more languages, and that will unlock more opportunities for international expansion for us in the future, which have historically been prohibitive.”

For now, AI dubbing is available in Spanish and German only, but Stern’s comments suggest additional languages could follow. This could potentially open the door for Peloton to enter new markets without needing to hire native-language instructors or build out local studios.
