Technical Issues (Outages / Live Class Glitches) & Class Cancellations at Peloton this week

If you noticed some unusual issues related to trying to take classes, or even the class schedule, pop up at Peloton this week, you’re not alone.

There have been a series of events over the past few days have impacted many Peloton community members – live class issues, a midweek outage, and a higher class cancellation rate.

This week multiple live classes have had noticeable technical issues – which resulted in many members trying to log on to join a live class only to see a blank screen with a spinning wheel, or a black screen with just the Peloton logo. Leanne Hainsby’s Abba Ride did not have video until about 10 minutes into the ride (though the on demand version does not reflect these issues), and a similar issue occurred in Jess Sims’ Flash 15 strength class this morning. Members reported not seeing or hearing the class until there were only about 4 minutes left – but Jess was on stage instructing as if the class had begun with no issues.

In addition, there was a two hour system-wide outage on early Wednesday morning, which followed a one hour scheduled maintenance window. Members who work out late at night on the west coast of the US & Canada, as well as UK, German, and Australian members who exercise early in the morning couldn’t access the Peloton platform, use the website, or take any classes. The Peloton UK & Peloton Australian accounts had been promoting a friendly Rivalry ride between the UK & Australian communities in honor of the Test Series – but were forced to reschedule this due to the outage.

Finally, members may have noticed a seemingly increased number of class cancellations this week across fitness modalities. In some cases, it appears that an instructor may have had a pre-planned vacation and the schedule hadn’t been updated to reflect that. However, this is definitely not the case for all of the cancellations and so far it doesn’t appear that instructors have been acknowledging cancellations or postponements on their social media platforms (which they often do). Some classes have simply been cancelled, others replaced with encores, and others have had other instructors replace them at their time slots. We will post updates if any of the instructors share a reason for this uptick in cancellations.

We are continuing to monitor these developments and will provide additional updates if we learn new information.
