Peloton Testing Pop-Up Ads To Apparel Store During Cooldown of Bike Classes: “Shop the instructor’s look”

Peloton is testing a post-class pop-up advertisement, on the Bike tablet, which allows members to shop the instructor’s look. The pop-up has appeared during the cool down portion of a select few classes on the Peloton Bike/Bike+ from recent days.

On classes where the feature is being tested, an alert will appear on the left-hand side of the screen between the music bar and the feed bar once the cooldown begins. The alert reads “Shop Leanne’s Look,” with a message to click the button to send the look to your email.

You can see how it looks in the closeup below.

Once you click the button, the alert instructs you to check your email for the message, and the alert goes away.

The email arrives immediately, the subject line reading: “Instructor-approved pieces you love.” There email provides links to both pieces Leanne is wearing in the class, the Push Your Boundaries Double Layer One Shoulder Bra and the Push Your Boundaries High-Rise Rib Insert Pocket Legging.

So far we’ve received reports that the pop-up is appearing in the below classes:

In each of these classes the instructor is wearing entirely Peloton Apparel. Instructors are reportedly required to wear at least one Peloton item during their classes, unless it’s a special class like a featured artist series.

A new Peloton patent from this past summer hinted these kind of features could be on their way, as it specifically mentioned pop-up notifications on the leaderboard.

The feature is currently only showing up on the Peloton Bike; not the iOS or Android apps, or the web browser. Peloton appears to be testing the feature out in select classes, but it could begin showing up more frequently as they roll it out.

What do you think of this new feature? Are you likely to use it?

Annoying. Last thing I want is advertising while I work out on screen when I pay $46 a month for access.

  • Edie says:

Popped up this morning with 30 seconds left in the ride very distracting and I couldn’t get rid of it. I agree with the previous comment. I don’t pay full price for my subscription to get pop-up ads for apparel that I already know I can purchase. I expect more from Peloton.

I don’t want ads on a paid app, especially one so pricey. That alone would push me not to use peloton at all. Sell my bike and discontinue my membership all together.

Had one pop up this morning during the cool down portion of Dennis Morton’s 10/22/2022 45 min Power Zone Endurance ride. Annoying and kind of makes me feel unappreciated as a paying monthly subscriber. At least do me the courtesy of providing an opt-out option.

I had the “Shop Emma’s Look” pop-up appear on my screen near the end of the 10 min. Extra 10: Low Impact Ride – Emma Lovewell – 11/1/22 @ 10am ET class I did this afternoon. I’m paying $47.65 per month for my Peloton subscription, and, in my mind, I should not also be submit to pop-up adds during the classes I already pay plenty for. Telephoned their support people and, after 10 minutes of hold time, was connected with a person who told me that there was no way for him to opt me out of such adds appearing on my screen. Yuk.

  • OhNO. says:

No I do not like it. I’m highly annoyed that my sacred workout space which is one way I leave all the consumerism behind is now being polluted with ads so peloton, who I pay monthly, can make more money. No this is not okay. It’s a breech of the wellness they preach.
