Pictures of rumored Peloton Platform strength machine discovered (Project Cobra)

In July 2021, we shared that Peloton had surveyed members about two potential strength devices. One of those was called the “Peloton Focus” – which ended up being released months later under the name “Peloton Guide”. The other device was called the “Peloton Platform.” Nearly a year later, in October 2022, a patent application for the Peloton Platform surfaced, showing the design and overview of the device.

Now, new images have now been discovered by Bob Treemore on Twitter this week that show photos of a design version of the Peloton platform device in use, as well as additional design renderings. The images appear to have accompanied either the original patent application or were added as follow-up submissions.

Before looking at these images, note that Peloton has gone through some drastic changes since the survey about the Peloton platform was first sent, including having new CEO Barry McCarthy. Peloton now has a singular focus on getting back to cash-flow positive. The Peloton Platform (or Peloton strength machine) could be canceled by now, and never see the light of day. The Peloton Platform, if it were to be released, could be seen as Peloton’s Tonal competitor.

Below, we’ll look at some of the images that show the Peloton Platform strength device. The images with the person on them appear to be beta mockups for functional testing. The other images all appear to be CGI renderings of the Peloton platform and accessories.

The first image shows everything that could be included with the Peloton Platform strength device. Besides the platform itself, it would come with a bench, flexible handles, rigid handles, a barbell, chargers for the handles, and a different charger for the platform itself.

Treemore reports that the dimensions of the Peloton Platform strength device would have a width of 42-48 inches, and a depth of 24-30 inches.

The legend accompanying the images references the “Cobra Platform” and “Cobra Bench” – indicating that the Peloton Platform device was likely known internally at Peloton as Project Cobra.

A follow-up picture shows the actual platform in more detail.

On each side of the platform are where the various handles & bars would attach (204,210,206,220). Next to that on each side would be a small button (320). This button would allow you to shift the cables left and right to adjust them to your desired width – depending on what exercise you were doing – and then lock them into place. The small lock at the top is an LED display.

The cable attachments and cable shifting buttons functionality become more clear when you see a user lifting on a design model of the Peloton Platform.

In this first image of a user, you can see they have the barbell attached, and the cables are set to nearly their widest setting on the platform itself.

An accompanying picture shows how the barbell would attach to the platform itself. All of the various attachments (barbell, handles, etc) would attach with the same general mechanism.

The barbell would come with an attachment to enable buttons to turn the weights on and off. This could be slid along the width of the bar to position it depending on where your hands would be for the exercise. Both the rigid handles and flex handles would have control buttons built into them. The image below shows a closer detail of the handles and barbell.

In a second image of the Peloton Platform in use, the user has attached the handles to the platform. Here, you can see that the cables have been slid in so they are much closer to shoulder width apart than they were in the first image with a user on the platform. This is shown below.

One more closeup of the platform itself indicates that it would have an LED display that could show the user information (as referenced briefly in the first image showing the lock icon). This could include warning information, whether the cable adjustments are locked, or what the current weight setting of the platform is. In the sample image below, the LED shows 165 – presumably indicating the cable tension is set at 165 pounds.

The reverse side of the platform is also shown – appearing to have 4 feet to balance the Peloton Platform.

The bench that would come included with the Peloton Platform appears to have been designed so that the platform piece can be stored underneath the bench to save some space in members’ homes.

Accompanying the pictures and mockups are more design diagrams and drawn figures. These show several workout types and modes of exercise that could be done on the Peloton Platform.

Several of the pictures show the user looking at a TV. Although not explicitly referenced, one could see the Peloton Platform having an integration with the Peloton Guide device that is already out. Members who don’t have the Guide could theoretically view the class content through any device that can display content on a TV (Apple TV, Roku, Airplay from an iPhone, Screencast from an Android, etc).
