Peloton updates members on Coronavirus prevention plans

As the coronavirus continues to spread, many companies are beginning to put measures into place to help prevent transmission of the illness. Peloton sent out an e-mail to riders who had recently attended an in-studio class or have one scheduled in the near future, including those registered for Peloton Homecoming, informing them of new prevention measures for in-studio riders. They have also posted the information as a FAQ page on their website.

Peloton reiterated that the health and safety of all members is their top priority and that new prevention measures would be put into place to prevent the spread of the virus. While all studio equipment is cleaned regularly with hospital grade disinfectant, they are now cleaning the equipment multiple times a day and installing Purell hand sanitizer stations in the studios.

Other measures include a change to the instructor selfie policy in the studio. After in-person classes, many riders line up to have their photos taken with their favorite instructors. According to Page Six, a Peloton Rep admitted that selfies were no longer allowed due to precautions. For now, a member of the production team will take a photo with the member’s phone. While this represents an official change in formal policy, this has been the standard practice for several months anyway, so won’t result in an actual change for the member experience unless further changes are made to not allow any photos with the instructors after the class.

According to the New York Times, 22 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York, with two critically ill patients located in Manhattan. More than 2,000 New Yorkers are under self-quarantine to prevent further spread of the illness.

Peloton Homecoming, the biggest member event of the year, is scheduled for May 1-3, 2020. There has been no official communication regarding any changes to the schedule related to coronavirus precautions. An e-mail with the Homecoming ride schedule and other logistics is expected to go out next week, so it’s possible that more information will be available soon.

Peloton Studios Coronavirus Prevention Measures

At Peloton, the health and safety of our community is always our top priority. As you are likely aware, coronavirus cases have now been reported in the United States and United Kingdom, among other countries. In light of this development, we wanted to share the proactive steps we are taking to minimize the risk of the spread of the virus.

In the interest of maintaining a safe environment for our Members, employees, and community at large, Peloton disinfects all studio locations with hospital-grade cleaners on a daily basis. We are also undertaking additional steps to combat the spread of the virus, such as installing Purell stations and implementing an increased cleaning schedule multiple times per day.

We are actively monitoring announcements from the CDC and other health agencies in order to ensure that we are up-to-date and providing our Members visiting our studios with the safest environment possible.

In addition to the proactive steps we’re taking, we encourage all of our Members to take the following precautions in order to keep themselves, as well as our community, healthy:

  • If you feel unwell (e.g., coughing, short of breath, or have a fever), we ask that you please stay home and wait until you have been symptom-free (without medication) for a minimum of 72 hours before returning to any Peloton location or studio. Beginning immediately and through March 31, 2020, if you cancel due to illness less than 12 hours prior to the class, the unused credit will go back into your account. We will continue to monitor the situation and may extend this policy exception as needed.
  • Wash your hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds – especially before and after time in the studio. If for some reason soap and hot water are not readily available, we ask that you use alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and have hand sanitizer stations available for this purpose. If you prefer sanitizing wipes to gel, we also have those available for your use.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and make sure to cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze with a bent elbow or tissue.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick or exhibiting symptoms.
  • Last, but certainly not least, if you have traveled to any of the affected countries outlined by the CDC at CDC travel, including but not limited to; China, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Italy, Iran, Taiwan, and Vietnam, please follow the CDC’s most up-to-date and recommended guidelines. Kindly note that the list of affected countries is ever-changing and may expand. We ask that you please refer to the following resources to ensure that you are aware of the latest updates:
