Peloton Tread+ Warranty Extended to 5 Years on frame, belt & motor

Peloton has quietly made a change to the included limited warranty for their original Tread+. As an added bonus, this change is retroactive, so it applies to anyone who has purchased the Tread+ in the past.

What’s changed? The original Tread+ now has a 5 year limited warranty on the frame, drive motor, and walking belt / slats. The included warranty previously only covered these parts for one year. The video screen, and individual components still only have a one year warranty. Additionally, labor is only covered for repairs for the first year as well under the included limited warranty.

This change will likely be welcome news to Tread+ owners and those thinking about the purchase. While most Tread+ users love the slats, there are a higher-than-expected number of users who end up reporting having issues with the base of the Tread+. While there still could be some Tread+ base issues that manage to fall outside the components included in the new 5 year warranty, one would imagine that many of them now would be warrantied repairs. This change to the warranty might be Peloton’s way of recognizing this issue and trying to assure potential buyers – and make right by people who have previously purchased it before their lower cost Tread comes out early next year.

However, those who purchased the extended warranty might feel that purchase has now been devalued. For an additional cost, Tread+ purchasers are/were able to purchase an extended warranty that covers parts and labor for an additional 12 months (cost of $270) or an additional 27 months for $325. A large number of people likely bought the extended warranty solely to protect themselves against base or motor failures – which are now covered for 5 years.

Those debating that value now should note that the included limited warranty only covers labor for the first year – so buying the extended warranty does keep labor included on any repairs for longer. Additionally, the included limited warranty does not cover any failures or damage due to normal wear & tear, or electrical failures or power surges, while the extended warranty does.

Several members who recently had to make non-warranty claims for Tread+ repair issues with Peloton reported receiving emails from Peloton recently. In it, Peloton notified them that the warranty was being updated, and as such, the repair they recently paid for was now included under warranty, and Peloton would be reimbursing them for their recent claim.

Thank you! This is very helpful since I just purchased a Tread + (addicted to my bike) and was concerned about the complaints post 1yr warranty.
