Peloton temporarily reduces number of live classes due to coronavirus COVID-19

Peloton announced this morning that they would be temporarily reducing the number of live classes, in an effort to reduce the amount of foot traffic and interactions in their New York studio to “prioritize the health and safety of our team, community and instructors.” This is in an effort to protect everyone from the spread of coronavirus COVID-19. This follows their announcement yesterday of the cancellation of Homecoming 2020.

Currently, the reduction in the number of live classes is only for today, March 13 – Sunday, March 15th. From Monday – Wednesday, March 16th – 18th, Peloton was already scheduled to have no live classes in the New York studio as Peloton worked to transition production to their new Hudson Yard studios, which officially opens Thursday, March 19th.

The full announcement posted was:

Members,
Out of an abundance of caution, we are modifying the number of live classes at our cycling studio this weekend starting on Friday, March 13th through Sunday, March 15th. Our aim is to reduce the foot traffic in the studio in order to prioritize the health and safety of our team, community and instructors.
As we had previously shared, we will not be live streaming any classes between Monday, March 16th and Wednesday, March 18th as we transition to our new location at Peloton Studios New York.
We are actively monitoring announcements from the CDC and other public health agencies in order to ensure that we are up-to-date and providing our Members visiting our studios with the safest environment possible. You can learn more here: http://bit.ly/2TnEI2l

Currently, once the new studio opens on Thursday, Peloton is planning to have their full range of classes. Expect for a decision to be made about a reduction of classes in the middle of next week as Peloton monitors the current situation and advisories from the local government and health organizations. Options might include reducing the number of classes, reducing the number of people allowed per class, filming classes but with no members in the studio, or cancelling classes altogether.

Update – Less than 12 hours after posting this, Peloton announced the studios would be closed to the public until further notice, but classes would still air live, just with no audience

    Chris –

Have you heard whether the schedule they’re posting for early morning classes in the new studio is what the schedule will be long-term? For those of us who like to ride “normal” classes (45 minutes or more) live on the west coast, the new schedule is awful.

    Thanks!
    Greg

My understanding is this is part of their bi-annual schedule refresh/tweaks (combined with new studio). So at this point, I would guess this is close to the regular new schedule. It being combined with the new studio move might mean they are on a more trial basis – so subject to change?
