Peloton cancels all live classes from NYC until April 7th

Late Friday evening, Peloton posted a notice in the Official Peloton Member Page facebook group notifying members that all live classes for the next few days from the PSNY studios were cancelled, effective immediately.

This is due to an employee at the new Hudson Yard Peloton Studios testing positive for coronavirus COVID-19. The plan is for Peloton to close the studios, do a deep clean & disinfection of the entire studios, and then re-open with a skeleton crew again to film a few live classes a day on Tuesday, April 7th. Peloton will still schedule some encore classes, and as of this time, a skeleton crew is still producing live classes with the UK instructors from the London studio.

The full notice is copied below:

Members,

You may notice that there are no live classes scheduled from Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) through April 6th.

We have learned that an employee at PSNY tested positive for COVID-19. In response, we activated our safety protocols, and this employee and all colleagues who had contact with the employee are now under self-quarantine. Additionally, we have closed PSNY for deep cleaning, which includes disinfecting the entire site with hospital-grade cleaners and fogging.

We expect to resume a modified live production schedule with a skeleton crew on Tuesday, April 7th. In the meantime, you can still take Encore classes, live classes streamed from our London studio, or choose from thousands of classes in our on-demand library.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

According to a recent support article, Peloton had been continuing to broadcast new live classes as they had been given special permission to continue broadcasting even while the state of New York is under a shutdown, stating that they “believe our ability to live-stream health and wellness content to our Members is essential to supporting the wellbeing of our communities through this time of social distancing and isolation”.

Some precautions they had been taking involved having a skeleton crew in the studio, having essential employees only work 1-3 days per week, and having a private car service, that was sanitized between every ride, transport employees to and from the studios.
