Peloton Beta Testing Body Activity (Muscle Groups) & Class Breakdown Details

Peloton appears to be beta testing a new feature for the iOS App (the Peloton Digital App for iPhone) that allows users to view a “body activity” section, as well as a class breakdown for time spent between cardio and strength for bootcamp content.

The body activity section shows a visual representation of the human body and highlights the muscle groups that will be worked in the class. Muscles highlighted in the darker blue color are the primary muscles worked, while the muscles highlighted in the lighter blue color are the secondary muscles worked.

Below the human body graphic, users will see a list of the muscles targeted in the class, with the corresponding percentage of time addressing that specific muscle. This feature provides much more information than what has previously been available to members before selecting a strength class.

The body activity section appears on all fitness modalities except for outdoor content and meditations.

The second new aspect is a more specific class breakdown for Tread Bootcamp and Bike Bootcamp classes. Currently users who do not have the beta testing version see a class plan for bootcamps, which lists out time spent on the Bike/Tread and the mat, with transitions in between. But they can’t view any specific information about what the cardio portion of the class entails, or which muscles are targeted in the class.

The new feature in beta testing totals the amount of time spent in the cardio portion vs. the floor portion and displays the information in a pie chart so that users can see which portion makes up the majority of the class.

The new feature also breaks down the cardio portion of the class in more detail than what has previously been available. For Tread Bootcamps, the breakdown indicates how much time is spent walking, jogging, sprinting, recovering, and in drills. For Bike Bootcamps, the breakdown indicates how much time is spent on a flat road vs. in high intensity intervals.

The body activity feature is also available for bootcamp classes and provides members a more detailed overview of which muscles are worked in each class.

This appears to be a very limited beta test right now with few users having access to the new features. There is no word yet on whether these updates will become available on Bike and Tread devices, but they likely will eventually.

These updates are likely in preparation for the release of the Peloton Guide, Peloton’s first ever strength-connected product, which is scheduled to be launched on April 5. We’ve previously reported on a host of new strength content currently in the works in advance of the product’s debut.

Earlier this week Peloton also updated the layout of information for on demand classes in the iOS App.

Will this new information be useful to you when selecting a class?
