The Power of Lizzo: Lizzo Rides In-Person @ PSNY & Peloton Platform Goes Down

If the last-minute Lizzo artist series happening today wasn’t enough of a surprise, riders were in for an extra treat when Lizzo herself joined the 12pm ET live ride from Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) with instructors Robin Arzón and Jess Sims! (Update – the ride is now on-demand and you can find it here).

Update – The servers are now back up.

Lizzo sat in the front row and joined the class about three minutes in. She played a game of “would you rather” with Jess Sims, sang during a couple of the songs, and even had her backup dancers, the Big Grrrls, join to dance to “Juice” and “About Damn Time.” Both Robin and Jess wore apparel from Yitty, Lizzo’s shapewear line in collaboration with Fabletics.

Unfortunately the live ride experienced numerous issues and shortly after it began the entire Peloton platform went down. Live riders reported the absence of a leaderboard, and some shared that they were kicked out mid-ride and couldn’t re-join. At 12:18pm ET Peloton posted to their status channel that they were investigating an issue with live and on demand classes. They also posted a Tweet acknowledging the issue, writing:

we’re so sorry we’re down right now. i know, i can’t wait to take the Lizzo classes, either.

It’s worth noting that sometimes when there are technical issues during live classes the rides are not posted on demand. But one can assume that with a class like this, they will do everything possible to ensure the ride makes it to the on demand library.

Peloton also published a blog post about Lizzo’s attendance, including an nod to the issue with Peloton’s servers:

With tens of thousands of Members on the leaderboard watching Lizzo’s grand entrance, Peloton’s servers were temporarily overwhelmed, but the energy on the Leaderboard is HOT as Members take the class on demand, as well as the rest of the day’s lineup of Lizzo classes.

The blog post includes a video (that Peloton has also posted on social media) featuring Robin, Jess, and Lizzo apologizing for “breaking the internet.

The Lizzo artist series was announced yesterday in celebration of her Special album release. You can read about the other Lizzo classes offered in our overview article. Cody was originally scheduled to teach the two-for-one ride alongside Robin, but shared via his Instagram stories this morning that he is under the weather.

As of publishing Peloton is still down, but you can monitor their status channel for live updates.
