When will the Peloton Tread+ be available for sale again?

As has been widely reported now, Peloton’s original Treadmill (now called the Peloton Tread+) has been recalled by Peloton due to safety risks. However, even with the recall, many people still hope to buy one, leading to questions of “When I can buy the Peloton Tread+” or “When will the Peloton Tread+ be available for sale again?”

Unfortunately, Peloton has said they expect it to be several months before the Peloton Tread+ is available for sale again – possibly not even until 2022. This is because the safety issues that led to the recall has to do with the design of the Tread+ itself. This means that the fix will require some sort of design change, as well as a change to the manufacturing process. Once Peloton has a proposed change, they will have to submit to the CPSC for review and approval.

During an investor meeting on December 7th, 2021, Peloton CEO John Foley shared that Peloton had not yet figured out a fix, and had not yet submitted a fix to the CPSC. This means that as of 2022, there is still no official date that the Peloton Tread+ is scheduled to return.

Some people speculate that since the Tread+ has a return window that runs through November 2022 for people to return their Tread+ for a full refund that Peloton will not make the Tread+ available for sale until after that date. Otherwise, people could just return their old Tread+ and get a free updated Tread+. However, this speculation has not been confirmed, or commented on, by Peloton.

The new lower cost Peloton Tread was also recalled, but returned to market as of August 2021. However, the fix for this was simply a new way of attaching the monitor to the Tread. The fix for the Tread+ is expected to be much more involved.
