Peloton Tread Blinking Red Light – Why Won’t My Peloton Tread Turn on?

Some owners of the Peloton tread have run into an issue where after pressing the wake button, rather than turn on as normal, the wake button will instead flash red several times.

The first thing to try is to detach and re-attach the magnetic safety sensor. This can sometimes come loose and cause the Tread to get confused. This isn’t the most common solution, but it’s the easiest to try, so try that first!

If you are still having problems, the next solution to fix this is by doing a complete power down of the Tread. First, find the power button on the bottom right of the Tread base. Turn this switch to off. Unplug the Tread’s power from the wall. Wait somewhere from 5-10 seconds until you hear a “click” sound. Plug the power back in and swap the power switch back to “On”. Wake your Tread back up.

In most cases, this will fix the issue of your Peloton Tread having blinking red lights, and not turning on. An alternative solution, if this still does not fix it or it continues to happen, would be to do a factory reset (you don’t lose any data, but might have to log back in and re-adjust settings).

I recently purchased a tread plus and loved it. About a week after the recall, my tread will not turn on. I have confirmed that there is power running to the tread (the red power button is on) but everything else is non-responsive. I have tried several things to trouble shoot- with the help of the support team at Peloton- with no luck. Any one else running into this? Any ideas? I don’t think they are sending any techs out until they get more clarity on the recall.

I am writing on here to hopefully help someone that is going through the agony and frustration that I went through for 6 months with my tread+…you know, when the tread screen just randomly turns off and then the belt stops and then the dreadful 3 flashing red lights…ughhh…well Peloton I hope you read this as well! It is not a circuit issue or loose connection or even a problem with any component of the tread (so stop replacing decks or Urails)

…my tread came out of warranty status last month so I figured what the hell..I got my screwdriver and laid with my back on the track and looked up under where safety key attaches..I undid the 5 screws holding stop button cover to the underlying circuit board..only to find a set of low voltage wires that plug into the circuit board as well as a ground wire that connects the the circuit board to the frame of the tread. This is what I noticed…the ground screw was not securely fastened to tread frame or to the circuit board (I could jostle both connections up and down with great ease)…I’ve never had a ground wire be a culprit of electric mishaps, but considering I wasn’t tripping the main circuit my thoughts are that the build of static electricity was not actually grounding the the metal frame, which causes the circuit board under the stop button to freak out…which is why the screen would turn off but the tread didn’t lose complete power…

I tightened both ground connections and just like that all my pain and suffering went away..I haven’t had this issue in what’s going on 2 weeks..proceed with caution because this would void your warranty, but like I said window had already passed for me..I really wish Peloton customer service would be more educated on the machine; I almost returned the tread and went to a Nordic because a 4k coat rack is not what I needed…I hope this helps anyone that is in the same situation that I was in
