Challenges now available in Peloton Digital Apple iOS app

Following the news last week that challenges had been added to the Peloton website, a new version of the Peloton Apple iOS app has been released to enable challenges there as well!

Challenges were enabled in version 12.4.0 of the Peloton Digital app, which was released on January 29th, 2020. The release notes for this version of the app give an overview of how Peloton challenges work:

Introducing Challenges. Hit your fitness goals, track your progress and stay motivated with Peloton’s seasonal challenges. Challenges give you structured goals to help you keep your workout routine on track, and help show your progress by earning meals and badges for completing each one. Enter into The Annual to track your workout minutes throughout 2020, or try the February Activity Challenge to aim for 5, 10, or even 15 workout days in any of our workout disciplines to earn a medal. New challenges appear each month. Stay on the lookout for unique flash challenges throughout the year to keep your routine fresh.

In the menu bar at the bottom of the app, you’ll see a new option for “Challenges”, where you can view, join, and track your progress in challenges. Within the challenges section of the app, you have 3 choices in the top menu bar – Active, Upcoming, and Completed.

Similar to the web version, in the active tab you’ll be able to view an overview about the challenges, read a description, and see the different levels of the challenges that is available. From here you can join any of the challenges that are currently open, including the Annual 2020 challenge which is a goal to hit a certain number of minutes over the course of the year. The one feature that the Peloton Digital version of challenges lacks is that you are unable to see which of your other friends are taking part of the challenge, and how far along they are. This is available in the web version, at the very bottom of the details page of the challenge.

The upcoming & completed sections function of Peloton Digital iOS similarly to the active tab – you can see your progress, read details, and see what badges you’ve earned or will be available.

Unfortunately, the Peloton Digital Android app has not been updated with this feature. In fact, since being released, the Android app has received basically no new features. Pre-loading classes for offline use, outdoor runs & GPS tracking, and now challenges are all features that have been released for iOS that have yet to be ported over to Android. Given that the Peloton tablet runs on Android, it’s somewhat surprising that the Peloton Digital Android app continues to receive no new features – at this point Android users will have to continue patiently waiting.

To start using challenges on your iPhone or iPad, simply update to the latest version of the Peloton Digital app. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can do so for free here.
